Guatemala has one of the highest illiteracy and lowest school enrollment rates in Latin America, primarily due to the high cost of attending school. We strongly believe that education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and creating a better future for children and their families.

Our General Education Fund works with our Student Sponsorship Program to provide students with the resources they need to get an education they can make the most of. The majority of our students speak an indigenous Maya language at home, and adjusting to classes in Spanish can be very challenging. Many of our students also have significant responsibilities at home - either working to support the family before and after school, or cooking and caring for younger siblings. This takes up a significant amount of time that might otherwise be spent doing homework and studying.

Help us give struggling students vital academic support, and give them a safety net to help with unforeseen educational expenses not covered under a sponsorship.
