The Lake Atitlán region of Guatemala's highlands is plagued with an overpopulation of stray animals. Aside from the concerns this raises over the animals’ general welfare, it also causes untold problems in the spreading of diseases (such as rabies and parasites) as well as posing a danger to native wildlife.
The Hope for the Animals Program works to do the following:
- Sterilization and Vaccination Clinics: In collaboration with one of the only licensed, practicing veterinarians in the Lake Atitlán region, we offer free and low-cost sterilization clinics monthly, or as our funding allows
- Education: Our Education Program provides awareness in humane handling and treatment of animals
- Animal Rescue: Where animals are found to have been injured or abandoned we work to re-home these animals
